Honesty
Ladies and Gentlemen: My topic is Honesty.
As a correspondent of the Qingdao Morning News, I visited Dr. James Gilman, the President of the International Committee for Marco Polo Studies in England. In this picture, this is James, and this is me and we are looking at a dragon's tooth. This is a true story.
65 years ago, James lived in Qingdao. Then he was only 5 years old. He often visited the Aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon. He was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted one to keep as a treasure.
In the late 1930s, when the Japanese occupied Qingdao, his family had to leave. On his last day in Qingdao, he ran to the Aquarium and pulled out one of the teeth from the dragon's mouth.
He kept the tooth for the next 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at having stolen it was there in the background all through his life. It was always on his conscience, and the feeling intensified as he became older. Finally he decided to put right his childish error. In 20xx, he visited Qingdao and returned it to the Aquarium with his sincere apologies. He received a warm welcome.
When James visited Qingdao, I accompanied him all the time and reported on his visit. I was deeply touched by his honesty. It has taught me a lot. I think to err is human. The important thing is to have the courage to admit and correct one's error.
Honesty is a vital quality of human behaviour. So we should try to keep an honest mind in everything we say and do. I would like to say to all of my friends: Let's be honest people of good moral character.

From the second picture, we can find some reasons. Why is the number of animal species declining year by year? Apparently animals have become victims of fashion industry. Animal skin has been used to make fashionable clothes and these clothes sell at a high price. So some greedy people begin to kill animals in a large quantity. This irresponsible behavior not only breaks the balance of nature but also endangers the living environment of human beings.
As far as I am concerned, something must be done to stop this illegal action. We believe "no buying, no killing". First, we must make concerning laws to protect these animals in danger. Second, we must take some measures to protect animals effectively. Animals are our friends and part of our environment. Third, we should raise people's awareness to protect animals and our environment. In this way, we can build a harmonious society and ensure a sustainable development.

半年的共同學習，使我半喜半憂，喜的是，我們高一三班的學生都很聰明，接受能力強，學習起來顯得很輕鬆，讓我覺得憂慮的是：部分孩子對英語不太重視。（包括與個別家長的交流中，發現有家長也未重視）可能這裏也包含許多家長覺得英語不太好輔導，你説語文數學吧，還懂點，這英語吧，還真是不好不懂裝懂，所以導致相當一部分的孩子英語基礎打得很不牢，個別的孩子甚至拼讀、書寫、背誦等學習英語的好習慣還沒有很好的養成，需要從頭開始。但是，孩子們上課時的專注同時也讓我感到欣喜。認真的孩子一定能把英語學好！
我確信：英語要學好和智商無關，學不好英語的人都是懶惰的人。
新教材與國中的教材跨度很大，要求也上了幾個台階，對孩子們具有比較大的難度。細心的家長可能就會發現，高中的課本和國中的課本相比，無論是從詞彙量，語法還是課文篇幅的長短都有了明顯的區別，國中的內容相當簡單，它簡直就是三年級知識的鞏固，稍微有所延伸，而高一一下子就接觸並需要掌握兩種時態。所以，有些同學很不能適應，國中學得輕鬆，還考好成績，怎麼到了高一不行了，這樣的現象很普遍，説到底，還是好的習慣沒有養成，不夠勤奮。在這裏，我要點名表揚幾位學生，她們學習態度端正，上課認真，書寫工整，正因為如此，無論什麼考試都能取得很好的成績。另外我還要提幾個同學，他們的潛力很大，但因為還不夠認真刻苦，所以沒有發揮出自己最好的水平，希望家長能夠配合老師，把孩子的成績抓上去。我堅信：如果您的孩子在您的支持和我的指導下能夠及時完成我佈置的任務，那麼一定能學好。要教導您的孩子一開始就要有吃苦耐勞的精神。堅持嚴謹的學習作風，成績馬上就會見效。
目前的形勢決定了英語學科的重要性，請各位家長務必重視英語這一學科，你們思想上重視了，無形中也給孩子以薰陶，重視與不重視肯定是完全不同的，在英語課堂上，大部分學生都能很活躍的回答老師提出的問題，積極跟着老師拼讀單詞，朗讀課文。其實這也製造了一種假象，學生認為自己常常被老師提問，認為自己能夠回答老師的問題，於是認為自己的英語學得很不錯，自我感覺特別好。於是下課後在英語上花的時間就少了。其實要學好英語，課上佔40%，其餘的60%還需要學生在課後不斷的鞏固，加深記憶。在課上老師更多的是教授新知識，當然課上也會有少量的時間鞏固新學的知識。但是這些時間是公共的時間，而不是每個學生私有的時間，所以不可能照顧到每個學生，不可能讓所有學生都達到相同的程度。況且每個學生對新知識得接受能力都是不同的，有的可能當堂就已經有很深的印象，很難忘記，但這肯定是很少的。大部分學生都只能是初步接觸了新知識，要真正接受新知識還要學生在課後多下功夫，不然肯定會和別的同學拉下差距。
那麼在課後學生到底該怎麼做才能把其餘的60%補回來呢？英語畢竟不是我們自己的語言，大多數學生除了英語課其餘時間根本就不會想到要説英語，所以，在課後一定要主動抽時間為自己補習英語。學好英語，不外乎就是在聽，説，讀，寫這些方面下功夫。
首先説一下聽，每個學生都有和書相配套的磁帶，可是請各位家長檢查一下自己的子女的英語磁帶，有多少學生的磁帶還是和剛發的時候一樣的，根本就沒有聽過。不要説另外買什麼英語聽力磁帶或者英語學習的碟片了，連自己手頭的磁帶都不去聽，光靠上課聽一點點的磁帶，學生的聽力根本就不能有什麼發展。不會聽就不能説，而説白了，學了英語就是要説，那不是白學了麼？聽錄音機跟讀，目的應該是兩種，一種同學是上課沒有完全消化，聽錄音是補充學習的過程，另外一種是提高自己的聽力和口語表達能力，要學生盡力地去模仿錄音機裏的發音，從而使自己的聽力和口語都提高一個層次。
接下來是説，英語是一門語言，學了就是要説，要和別人交流。我們學的英語不應該是啞巴英語，要讓每個學生學會勇敢地説出來。在課上我會用各種方法來刺激學生，激發他們説英語的積極性，大多數學生也確實做得很好。可是班級里人多，對每個人來説，説的機會就少。所以下課也要説；放學回家也要説。在學校，我鼓勵學生把所學的英語對話運用到生活中去，這樣有更真實的情景，更能讓學生有發揮的餘地。在家裏，希望家長也能鼓勵學生説英語，也許你會説你自己也聽不懂，請不要這樣想，其實學生需要是你的鼓勵，你聽了他們説的只要簡單表揚一句，他們就會很滿足了。有時候你們也可以不懂裝懂，或者還可以讓學生反過來教你，他們會覺得很自豪，因為自己所學得派上了用場。
接下來是讀。有句話：“讀書破萬卷，下筆如有神。”學英語也是這樣，很多家長也明白，學英語要培養語感，也就是語言的感覺，如果有很好的語感，那麼不管是説話，做題目，還是寫文章，都很輕鬆，很簡單了。那麼語感怎麼來呢？就是靠讀出來的。一定要讓學生養成每天讀英語的習慣，這是學英語的最基本的學習習慣了。每天早上一定要讀20分鐘左右的英語，哪怕有時候時間來不及了，即使是遲到也要讀，並且每天都堅持，絕不因任何原因間斷。無論什麼事情都貴在堅持嘛。如果你的子女還沒有養成這樣的學習習慣，請你一定要督促他，剛開始也許會比較難，時間久了，就會習慣成自然。就像早上起來要刷牙洗臉一樣，要讓他們把讀英語當作每天必做的`一件事。
