遊客朋友們，你們現在所看到的就是重慶湖廣會館了，它位於重慶渝中區東水門正街4號，建於清乾隆二十四年(1759年)，道光二十六年(1846年)擴建。會館佔地面積8561平方米，現有廣東會館、江南會館、兩湖會館、江西會館及四個戲樓，包括廣東公所、齊安公所。會館建築浮雕鏤雕十分精湛、栩栩如生，其題材主要為西遊記、西廂記、封神榜和二十四孝等人物故事的圖案，還有龍鳳等各種動物圖案及各種奇花異草等植物圖案。整個古建築羣雕欄畫棟，雕刻精美，是我國明清時期南方建築藝術的代表，也是我國現存規模最大的古會館建築羣。東水門一帶，按照風水學説，河道彎曲的內側是“吉地”，外側是“凶地”。東水門一帶恰好是朱雀翔舞之地，風水很好，會館就選址於此。
現在就請大家邊參觀邊聽我的講解，請往這邊走，明末清初，四川人口鋭減，當時的執政者就將湖廣百姓遷往四川，形成了中國歷史上長達百年的“湖廣填四川”的移民浪潮，一批湖廣會館也就應運而生。祖上或許正是那時隨移民來到重慶，所以來到湖廣會館就覺格外的親切相熟了。譬如現在我們所説的“崽兒”、“抄手”“啷個”等鄉土方言，都是源於湖廣方言。湖廣填四川前的宋代川音，現在已經無法聽見了。當年的湖廣會館是重慶“八大會館一公所”中最繁華的一個。會館的領導一般叫“當家的”，管事的是“二當家”，為人往往八面玲瓏，會館經營得異常紅火。
請大家看，湖廣會館的圍牆樣式，是明清時期常見的黃色封火牆，以直線構圖而呈階梯狀疊落，又稱‘碼頭牆’，是典型的江南建築風格。這樣的設計，使整個湖廣會館呈“L”形，從山坡上直衝而下，圍牆聯綿不斷，造成異常震撼的視覺衝擊。湖廣會館的封火牆也是很具建築特色的。它對建築的層數、高差、進退等問題，都能起到很好的過渡作用，使單調的懸山頂人字屋面變得錯落有致，曲折流暢。湖廣會館的封火牆除了連續不斷的特點外，其造型與地形的結合也很有特色。齊安公所的封火牆造型是最獨特的。封火牆形式繁多，主要有梯形、曲線形(拉弓牆)、人字形，一字形。齊安公所的封火牆正是曲線形的拉弓牆，呈圓弧形，配以牆體結構的連續，因此視覺上很像翱翔着的巨龍的背脊，龍脊依山勢而下，自然氣勢非凡。北方的封火牆是直線的，講究中規中矩，莊重但缺乏靈氣;而南式封火牆如浙江保留的封火牆，都還能體味出靈動的趣味。湖廣會館的封火牆就是屬於南式。
無論是四川還是北京抑或重慶，但有湖廣會館就有禹王廟或禹王殿。320xx年前的湖廣會館在每年正月十四都要舉辦禹王廟會，祭奠禹王，祈求來年風調雨順、國泰民安。傳説大禹治水，就曾經居住重慶，連兒子生在重慶也沒有回家看看。所以現在重慶南岸還有個地方叫彈子石，意為誕子。禹王宮是由早期移民中的湖南、湖北富商、鄉紳捐資興建，始建於清乾隆二十四(1759年)。禹王宮原是傳統的黑青瓦。從清順治年間早期湖廣移民入川時就開始修建，後雖經嘉慶、道光和光緒時候三次重修、擴建，青瓦的風格都保持了最初的樣子。1734年發行的清代建築手冊《工程做法則例》明確規定：黃色是帝王之色，京城皇宮就用黃色琉璃瓦;綠色是士大夫的顏色，一般百姓不能使用。黑色屬水，水能克火，所以中國民間絕大部分建築的瓦都是黑青色。山西晉商儘管富甲天下，其深宅大院也只能用黑瓦。禹王宮的黑青瓦正是如此。
重慶湖廣會館不同於北京湖廣會館那種建築空間寬大，氣勢宏大的特點，卻更多繼承了徽式建築的結構特點。在園林造景上多采用江南南式園林的手法。固而會館院落之間反覆出現高大的封火牆把空間分割成若干小院落，每個小院落間有小門連接，空間上並不斷絕。這使每個院子都有自己獨特的功能與對應的風景，假山花草、小橋流水、圍廊雕畫，都是特有的風貌，完整空間內又包含着獨特性，這正江南園林的特點和徽式建築的結構特點的結合。同時，我們也可以看見重慶地域建築特色。整座會館依山勢而建，建築高差有別，錯落有置，梯步蜿蜒，各院落中設有天井涼台。這都是傳統徽式建築結構沒有的特點。重慶湖廣會館的建築特色的確與眾不同。
湖廣會館曾經承載了重慶往昔的一段輝煌，而今天的湖廣會館將繼續承載新重慶的另一段輝煌。
